Name and meaning: Charmeleon is a portmanteau of char and chameleon. Because... uh... he's a reptile that sets things on fire. His Japanese name, Lizard, comes from... uh... him being a lizard. EXCITING STUFF, I KNOW
Super secret aaaaa: When Char was with his old trainer, his name was Kerosene, which is a type of fuel for lanterns and jet engines and stuff. Yes, his trainer sucked at names.
Age and date of birth:
17, December 3rd.
Physical attributes: (Elaborate on everything, from hair style to muscle tone to the their eyelid's tendency to flicker up and down during a boring teacher's lessons. Twitch.)
As a Pokemon: Charmeleon was the runt of his litter. He's only three feet even, which is short for his species. His eyes are an exceptionally light blue. Aside from that, he's pretty much indistinguishable from every other Charmeleon ever.
As a human: Char is still pretty runty, alas. He's about 5'6", and for all his brute strength and physical ability, he tends towards the skinny side of things. He's pretty lily-white, too, but don't let any of that fool you into thinking he's a pushover. His hair is very, very red and just a little scruffy. It kicks up in the back in aduckbutt gdit parody of his horn and flares out at the bottom. His eyes are the same light blue color, and he retains his pointy lizard teeth. His tail also remains in his gijinka form, meaning he gets to almost burn the school down several times a day.
Distinguishing features: (Anything unusual—scars, tattoos, etc. Or an unusual color of hair. What makes your character an individual? Please do not say violet-coloured eyes.)
His tail is probably his most distinguishing feature, as very few students tend to stroll around with their ass on fire. He tends to stand out naturally, though. His gijinka form is pretty much all about contrast, and boy oh boy does that red hair stick out. The way he carries himself also makes him hard to overlook. He thinks he's hot shit, and it shows in his body language.
Frequently used verbal expressions: (Either phrases “unbelievably pretentious!” or attitude.)
Charmeleon is a slur machine. Very rarely will any of his verbs end in a full -ing. He has no problem peppering his speech with vulgarity, and in fact gets a kick out of being inappropriately crude. He also refers to fun things as "a real barrel of monkeys." Just because he can. Char also seems to have a thing for referring to ladies by nicknames. Most girls he doesn't really know get called "sweetheart" or "darlin'," Nyx is commonly referred to as Casper, and Samus gets to be Biomech. Woo.
Frequently used facial expression or other physical gesture: (They motion with their hands while they talk, never look people in the eye while giving speeches, tap their pens while listening to professors.)
Char pretty much comes in two flavours: scowling and smirking. His body language is rarely approachable; either he's slouching like some common punk or he's got his back straight, shoulders back, and head up in a downright smug way. His tail is probably the one thing that indicates his feelings best. It wags when he's happy, smacks the ground when he's angry, droops when he's upset... and no matter what he's feeling, there's a 70% chance that he may or may not come close to scorching something accidentally.
Education (and grade): (Please elaborate on education prior to, during, and after school, including their level of interest in their subject of choice (or as chosen by another) and their general academic behaviour. Did they attend primary schools? Home tutoring? Somehow, they managed to read and pick up other basic skills, right?)
~nooone whatsoever.~ Charmeleon has never set foot in a formal learning establishment before SBG. Everything he knows came from observing the aides in the lab, picking things up from his older trainer and team, and figuring out thin
Academic skills: (Classes they excel at, whether or not essays are the thing for them, neat handwriting, attentive listening—how they manage to pass their classes or career.)
Uhhh. If, for some reason, Charmeleon actually attended his classes and applied himself, he'd reveal himself to have a knack for logical thought. He would probably excel in math, physics, and tactics-related classes. He's not that great at writing, if his way of speaking hasn't made that apparent, but he's sharp, quick-thinking, and has a good eye for detail.
Academic weaknesses: (And everything they manage to do to fail.)
Charmeleon sets himself up for failure, basically. He's convinced he doesn't actually need an education at all, and he can't be a failure if he doesn't try in the first place, right? So he skips classes, ignores assignments, and backsasses his teachers. The fact that his teachers all put up with it just further kills any urge to try. In fact, the only class that Char puts forth any sort of effort in is Surge's, simply because Lt. Surge brooks no backtalk and knows how to motivate Char.
Main goal (dream) at this point in time: (Their main goal or dream is likely to change over time. How does it reflect their character? What hidden aspects are there to it? Elaborate.)
What is there to aim for? He's a gym leader's Pokemon, he was part of a champion's team. That's more than most Pokemon accomplish in their lifetime. Char's at a bit of a loss for his one, defining purpose: he doesn't really know what he wants. His lack of purpose tends to manifest itself in contradictory, self-destructive urges. He loves Nyx and wants to be with her, but he shies away from telling her and continues to crush on Ivy. He doesn't want to be looked down on as stupid, but he sabotages his grades. He longs to evolve, but rejects his old trainer's dream of a mighty, proud Charizard out of spite. He drinks, he picks pointless fights, he lashes out at people that never did him any harm. The few rare kindnesses people pay him are just met with more hostility; Char doesn't want to drive everyone out of his life, but he hates thinking people only do nice things for him out of pity.
Secondary goals: (Like before, but smaller things that are somewhere in the spectrum, but not at the top of the list.)
There are a few things Char wouldn't mind, really. He'd like to try swimming -- really swimming, not a nervous doggy paddle with his tail as high as possibly. He'd like to see Bulba grow up to be tough and independent. Someday, it might be nice to be a Charizard. He maybe wouldn't mind it if he had a litter of his own one day. He'd like to survive another year, even if he never thought he'd live to see 17.
But if none of those things ever happened, whatever.
Love interest: (One hopes this will change over time. What draws them to this person? Is there a common characteristic in all those they adore? What types of relationships are they involved in?)
Nyx, first and foremost. The two go together like salt and pepper spray. He can be entirely at-ease around her; the two share a scathing sense of humour and a healthy love of shenanigans. It's rare to find a girl that not only tolerates blatant douchebaggery, but supports it, and he delights in being able to share his usual activities with her. He struggles with getting close to her because he is a massive emotional retard, but he's infinitely grateful that she's patient with all his flaws. Even if it's unspoken on Char's end, the love is there. Just buried under a massive pile of derp.
And, of course, there's Ivy. Char cannot for the life of him shake his crush on her, though lord knows he's tried. That's... it's complicated.
Family: (At least 100 words on each character should cover occupation, family history, how family members met (your character's parents), and a basic personality description.)
Mother: Professor Oak's Charizard. |D He was one of many breeded to be given out to starting trainers, so he was born and raised in Oak's lab. Char's species is not very social, as a whole, and it's rare for Charizards to spend time with their young once they're old enough to fend for themselves. Char rarely speaks about his mother and doesn't keep in touch with her very often, but deep down he still loves his mama. :V
Char's old trainer: A driven, ambitious kid who tended to lose sight of everything but the goals he'd set his mind on. When he first started his journey, he was as close to his Kerosene as can be and regularly talked about his grand dream: him and a big, strong Charizard, standing side-by-side at the very top of the League as champions. Char was not abanonded by him; he's adamant on this point. His trainer was never cruel. He just... fell by the wayside. Char has tracked down his old trainer's contact information through the Indigo League registry, but he's never had the guts to actually get in touch with his ex-trainer.
Adrenaline: A sweet little Mankey who belonged to his old trainer. Soft, ladylike, and quiet. Char viewed her like a sister and did his best to encourage her to show a little more spunk, and she supported him in her own gentle way.
Alkaline: A Pikachu his old trainer caught in Viridian Forest. Alkaline was like an older brother/mentor. He stressed the importance of cleverness to survival and passed on a lot of tips about living in the wild.
Green: Char's current trainer. An overconfident douche. Char takes after him in a lot of ways, with the biggest difference being that Green actually has the skill and knowledge to back up his arrogance. Char pretty much falls all over himself to please Green like a bizarre mashup of a goon and a lapdog.
Bulba: Super secretly, Char loves having a big brother role. It sort of shows with the way he dotes on Rasputin, but it's mostly with Bulba that his devotion's apparent. He wants nothing more than to make sure that Bulba never feels left out or like a burden... and if worst comes to worst, that he's able to take care of himself.
Blastoise: TSUN TSUN aaaaaa. Char sees Blastoise like a brother, too, but it's more the relationship where said brothers never stop fighting. Char is constantly trying to prove himself better, and he fails miserably every single time. Often with hilarious results.
Place of residence (city, house, etc.): (Where does your character live?)
A pokeball lol :V Char currently lives in BE-13 with General Guy. His end of the room probably resembles a battlezone. I see there being accidental scorch marks on the walls, floors, etc from his tail, maybe a claw mark or dent or two in the wall, etc. His bed is probably pretty sparse, since he's more or less at the same temperature all the time and blankets are a fire hazard. He either gave his to Rasputin or let Genny have them. Despite all the damage to his end of the room, he probably keeps it tidy; the less clutter, the less likely he is to start a housefire.
Worst past experience: (Please remember that experiences are not limited to relationships--early/childhood experiences would be best, unless something that happened to your character as an adult has had a more significant impact.)
Realizing his trainer had achieved their dream without him. Char gave up on that Charizard standing beside his trainer at the top of the league that day. It was a crippling blow to his self-confidence that he still hasn't recovered from, and it shattered his faith in people. As eager as he is to please Green, Charmeleon doesn't actually trust him... or anyone, really; he believes if he starts falling behind, he'll be forgotten about again. That's the thought behind his smug superiority, whether he realizes it or not; Char's behavior is just a way to protect him from that kind of rejection.
Best past experience: (Please remember that experiences are not limited to relationships--early/childhood experiences would be best.)
I'd say the day Team Green became E4 champions. That's about as high as a Pokemon can aim, really, and the fact that he'd done it without his old trainer -- as a Charmeleon, even -- was something to feel pretty damn good about. It's rare that Char is successful at anything, let alone something as important as that.
Hobbies: (All interests.)
Picking fights, acting sassy, being an instigator
Profession (aspired to): (What does your character want to be when they grow up? Or, if they're already an adult, what do they wish they were doing?)
Hell if he knows. Char kind of doubts he'll even see adulthood.
Strengths: (Try and keep the number small—weaknesses are more important.)
Char actually is a pretty capable fighter. He's fast, he's sharp, he's passionate, frank enough to say what needs to be said and move on, and he refuses to be intimidated or bossed around by anyone. If somebody wants his respect (or at least obedience), they have to damn well earn it. Otherwise, he does as he pleases. Life's too short to run yourself ragged trying to satisfy everyone.
Weaknesses: (More important for role playing—please include several at least.)
Hot-headed, self-destructive, actually fails a whole lot, unnecessarily antagonistic, too proud for his own good, rude, disrespectful, a bully, and actually pretty insecure. He's short, so he cuts other people down so he can be tall. Something like that.
Habits: (Both the good and the bad.)
Punching things in the kidneys?
Any other information: (Basically an “other” category.)
Likes spicy food, but chocolate almonds are his favourite thing ever. Digs 80's tunes.
Possessions: (Details as well. What your character owns and what quality it is in.)
Char probably has tons of crap lying around, he just doesn't invest too much emotional worth in his stuff. All he really needs is the flame on his tail.
Wardrobe: (What your character wears and its condition. This should reflect their social status, financial situation, social involvement, etc.)
Char's school uniform: dress shirt, black pants, awesome red sweater vest. Fuck you, they're the best. He also owns casual stuff like t-shirts and shorts and jeans and hoodies, I just rarely draw him in them because that's how much I love the sweater vest.
What they would say about themselves:
"Shit goddamn I sure am badass."
What others would say about them:
"That Charmeleon is bad news. Just ignore him."
What is the one thing in the world your character would do anything to avoid?
Being helpless. That means being useless which means scary, scary things like failure and rejection.
What is the one thing in the world your character would do anything in the world to have?
That would involve knowing what he wants.
How did your character make their enemies? Their friends? (Although this doesn’t have to be detailed, explaining circumstances and what unites and estranges your character with others is important.)
Char made his enemies (ie: 90% of SBG) by being... Char. He stirs up trouble for kicks and degrades people for the fun of it. Not exactly endearing traits. The few people who look to him as a friend... Charmeleon isn't quite sure what they see in him. They're real fun, though, so he isn't complaining.
What does your character fear? (Explain fears and the reasons behind them.)
Again, rejection. Char acts the way he does simply because he hates that he's a runt/a fuckup/was forgotten about because he simply couldn't keep up. If he acts like he's too good for everyone else, nobody will notice he actually isn't good enough. Or something like that. He doesn't allow people the chance to probe that deeply into his psyche. He's happier being a shallow douche; he would much rather be hated than pitied.
What is irresistible to your character? (Explain why they can’t resist the irresistible and the reasons behind their inability to resist.)
If there's a chance to stir up trouble, you can bet your bottom Char will seize it.
Who does your character admire most? (The person, their admirable qualities, and your character’s reasons.)
Role models are for chumps. Char's admiration is hard to win over; Green and Ivy are probably the only people that have it.
